Crashes when printing are usually due to bugs in the printer driver software. Have you tried updating your printer driver? Yes updated today. OK, so it’s a printer driver issue, probably just trying to load the last used settings we’ve seen similar driver bugs before. You can try deleting the Photoshop preferences, which will remove the last used print settings.
If the driver doesn’t flake out again, that should be the end of it. But some drivers fail to read their own settings correctly, and need to be updated from the printer manufacturer’s website. Thanks but how do I delete the Photoshop preferences? Photoshop CC keeps constantly crashing when selecting “print”. Go to Youtube You can fix it.
Just updated the new bug fix but still cannot get to the print dialogue box to choose any of the printers – so have no idea which printer needs an update as each one prints fine from other applications?
Tuckfield: This seems like the same problem I have had. I have found the problem to be 1. You have to previously used a printer that doesn’t play nice or have the spooler turned off. The file being printed has incompatible printer information, ie if Photoshop didn’t crash you would get the following message: “The saved printer information is not compatible with this version of Photoshop or the saved printers is no longer available”.
I have been able to reproduce this problem with a clean loaded Windows 7 machine with no drivers installed, but have been unable to convince Adobe to resolve the problem. We can’t resolve a problem we can’t reproduce. I have covered the net looking for a fix for this crash. Other applications address the printer without a problem.
PS CS6 under Win 7 64 bit crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer using the driver from Samsung website for the CLP I have done a cold boot too. Still crashes. Greg: Sorry.. You are unlikely to get any help from Adobe, nor Samsung.
They both will point the finger at each other. On this thread I have posted workarounds the best is to use CS5. The problem is with the printer driver, and can only be fixed by the printer vendor. I have been using this software for two years. It used to work. Now it does not. If it were the printer driver, why does every other application except CS6 function flawlessly? Also, why do others seem to have this problem and are not using Samsung CLP but a host of other printers?
Because most other applications are not using the newer printing APIs that Photoshop uses. We keep testing these bugs, and finding bugs in the printer drivers, especially when they fail to read old print settings like the OS standards say they are supposed to.
Greg: There are a lot of printers that have this problem. When you call the printer companies they say it is not their problem, their printer work with every application but Photoshop. Best I can tell Adobe has done little outreach to the printer companies.
I got pretty high up the Ricoh’s support network and they claimed they had never been contacted by Adobe. Adobe has worked closely with the printer manufacturers – but mostly with driver developers, not tech support phone answerers. No drivers, no other programs installed. It has this crash when the print spooler is turned off and try to print. The crash log look just like the ones I get on other systems when it crashes with the spooler on, so I think the failures are the same.
I have reproduced this failure on multiple machines. I offered to bring the system to your office, however I don’t actually think this is necessary.. It does take both conditions for the crash to happen. That said, I’m more than willing to bring the machine in if we can get on the road to fixing this problem which is in both CS6 and CC but not in CS5.
I have the same issue, win 7 64 bit Photoshop CC latest update done, when trying to print I get the PS has stopped working box as previously posted above. Really fed up with this it is not the first time, I have had this issue, but today I need stuff printed asap, if someone has a solution please let me know. Gordon: There are some workarounds, but none very pretty. Use CS5. Open a new document, and slide all your layers into that document. That will print fine.
Figure out which printer is causing the problem. It is not printer you are trying to print to, it is the last printer used. Once you figure out which printer it is, then make a note that every time you use that printer, that you need to “print” to a safe printer. You don’t actually need to print, just open the print dialog box, and then press done. That will make the last printer a “safe” printer. Adobe says the problem is a driver problem.
Part of that is understandable, it definitely is related to particular drivers, but the universe of those drivers seems pretty big. I have been able to reproduce this problem with no third party drivers, so there definitely some Photoshop problem. On top of that, I have no other applications that crash on printing other than photoshop. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I have managed to get it working again, after powering off, removing power cables and then firing up after 10 mins, seems to be fine for now, I agree that a printer that was working fine and works with other programs should not be causing PS to crash.
Just hope you have saved before you print, or you will lose all your work. Having experienced the same problem myself after installing a new printer, I find the only way I could get anything to print in PS Prints fine that way. Frustrating, and I lack the technical know-how to understand why, how, what etc. For me, the “creating a new document and moving the layers” things doesn’t work. No matter what I do in photoshop the second I hit “print” whether from the drop down or the shortcut on the keyboard it crashes without the print dialog box ever showing up.
What version of Photoshop? Have you tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the printer driver? Bskulls problem sure has all the symptoms. Purchase a new printer and hope it solves the problem best I tell is that Samsung laser printers to this day still have the problem.

Important : Rasterizing layers or flattening your image removes editable content, such as type and Smart Objects. Before proceeding with this task, make a backup of your existing image. For more information about rasterizing layers, see Rasterize layers. For more information about flattening your image, see Merge and stamp layers.
If you encounter problems printing an image with color separations, print a composite of the file to determine if a color plate is the problem. When you print a composite, all the colors print on one plate, regardless of whether individual colors have been selected. If the problem with your specific image persists after performing the above steps, your file could be damaged.
It is also possible that the way that Photoshop interacts with your system is causing the problem. Proceed to Resolve problems printing to any printer from Photoshop for further troubleshooting steps.

Re-create the Photoshop preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file can cause. For instructions on how to re-create the preferences, see these steps: Reset Photoshop Preferences. Note : When you use this solution, Photoshop creates a preferences file and you lose custom settings associated with your current preferences file. If you determine that the preferences file is not causing the problem, then you can restore your custom settings by returning the preferences file to its original location.
If the file is on a removable drive for example, a USB hard drive or network drive, move it to a local hard disk.
Adobe recommends storing files on a local hard disk when you open, save. Or, print them to reduce potential problems and damage to your files. Make sure that plenty of free hard disk space is available on your system drive, or the drive on which you have the file stored. Adobe recommends that free space is equivalent to three to five times the size of the file you print.
To create more space, search for and delete temporary. For instructions about clearing the temporary Internet files, see the documentation for your Internet browser. For instructions on removing programs, see the documentation for each program.
You can also free up disk space by bypassing the spool file on Windows, which stores temporary files to the system drive during printing. For instructions for bypassing the spool file, see the documentation included with Windows or contact Microsoft Technical Support.
If you print to a network printer, try printing the file from a computer that is connected directly to a local printer. If the file prints correctly, network-related issues or problems with your printer or its device drivers could be the cause. Contact your network administrator, consult the documentation for your printer, or contact the printer manufacturer for assistance.
Some applications or services could cause problems when running concurrently with Photoshop. Before printing from Photoshop, disable startup items that run when your computer starts up. For Mac, start up into Safe Boot. Safe Boot mode maximizes available RAM and reduces the possibility that another application or background service conflicts with Photoshop. Or contact Apple support. For Windows, see: Disable startup items, services Windows for details. See Optimize performance.
