With no official response, I’m looking for alternatives at this point. I renamed the file to tib. If Acronis had fixed this issue, I might have stayed and spent more than I needed to. But they didn’t, and haven’t shown any urgency so they’ve lost me for good. I have had occasions where my system get hosed-up beyond the ability to recover it via say System Restore. And you sure don’t want to have to go back to your original factory setup, get all your programs and settings back to where you want them, and then recover your files from your iDrive and etc.

I suspect the “obvious” solution of allowing selective installation of components is a major task, one that Acronis is unwilling to undertake at the same time as they are rebuilding ACPHO apparently from the ground up.

It is my understanding that Microsoft does not have core isolation and memory integrity as a default settings which most users would be unaware of. Instead I rely on the obvious included tools when I install software and decide to uninstall again: either Windows’ Uninstall, or Windows’ System Restore, or if those fail to work of course there is ATI Recover from backups which I do every morning. It’s a sandbox.

Lets say you go to an unscrupulous web site or install a questionable program. If everything is OK, you apply the changes. I did three more things, and now the David Braun fix as above works on this machine. Whether this makes the machine fall back to the internal HDD or not depends on timing. Which of these things is critical, I don’t know. I did them all, and now the machine boots to the Acronis disk. I have tried cloning and restoring from a full backup. When I try to boot from my Acronis disk, I get the “Video mode setup error” referenced above. I can disable secureboot and enable legacy support as suggested above, but, while this lets me boot from the disk into Acronis, if I try either to clone the HDD or restore from a full backup onto the SSD, I get a warning message stating that when the operation completes the system will not be able to boot from the destination disk.

However, the only way I can get Acronis to boot from the disk is to disable secureboot and enable legacy support. If I A leave secureboot enabled or B disable both secureboot and legacy support, then I’m back to Acronis not booting due to the “Video mode setup error. I have also tried creating a Windows PE version of the rescue media to no avail.
